Family and friends are collecting memorial contributions on behalf of a Moorpark College student who was killed last week in a single-car accident in Northridge.
Steve Rafter, 17, of Westlake Village was a member of the college’s Associated Students Board of Directors. His mother, Eva Conrad, is a college vice president.
Rafter was heading south on Tampa Avenue near the Ronald Reagan Freeway early Friday evening when he lost control of his car. His Toyota Camry spun into the median and hit a light pole. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The cause of the accident is unknown.
Rafter had planned to transfer to UCLA as an English major. A scholarship fund is being set up in his honor. For further information, or to make a contribution, contact Sharon Miller, director of the college’s student activities office, at 378-1832.
In addition to Conrad, Rafter is survived by his father, Mark Rafter of Westlake Village and a sister, Lettie Conrad of Northridge.
