The latest cast in “The Vagina Monologues” at the Canon Theatre features Brooke Shields, Swoosie Kurtz and Jenifer Lewis, reading Eve Ensler’s monologues based on women’s thoughts and experiences. The audience is so preponderantly female at this show that the men’s room sometimes is drafted into use by women.

Last time through town, exactly two years ago, Annabella Lwin was fronting a reunion of Bow Wow Wow, the colorful band she fronted as a teenage singer under the aegis of Sex Pistols Svengali Malcolm McLaren in the new wave ‘80s. This time she’s leading her own group, Tang.

“Phantom,” the critically acclaimed “other” dark romantic musical by Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston, about the opera house phantom and the beautiful young singer he obsessively falls for, makes a Southland tour stop.

Hammond B-3 organist Big John Patton and guitarist Calvin Keys have never quite received the attention their skills deserve. But each is a master of hard-driving, soul-style jazz, with credits that include gigs with the likes of Grant Green, Lou Donaldson, Ray Charles and Jimmy Smith. Together, they can be expected to keep the blues alive.
