Repairs Mean Dark Future for Pavilion
The Balboa Pavilion, famous for its outline of festive white lights, will remain dim this month during maintenance.
Former owner Phil Tozer installed the more than 1,400 lights along the building’s rim in 1968 to illuminate the Victorian landmark against the Newport Harbor. But residents will have to do without the lit backdrop until the first week of February while the building is tented for maintenance, pavilion officials said.
The Tale of the Whale restaurant, Catalina Passenger Service, Newport Bay Harbor Cruises and Davey’s Locker Sportfishing will all remain open for business during the work. Information: (949) 673-4633.
