The owner of a South Los Angeles dental clinic was charged Friday with practicing dentistry without a license, which authorities said he had done for 20 years.
Los Angeles City Atty. James K. Hahn filed one misdemeanor criminal count against Ronald Herbert Woods, 68, who operated a clinic called Manchester Dental Group at 2070 W. Manchester Ave.
The name of the clinic has since been changed.
Prosecutors were alerted to the case by the state Dental Board, which identified several patients who said they received treatment from Woods.
One, an 80-year-old Carson woman, told investigators that she had been going to Woods for 20 years, most recently to get her dentures realigned because they had left her mouth so sore she could not chew, prosecutors said.
Woods is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 21 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
