That’s Not the Song
Susan King is correct in pointing out that the Pinocchio story, such a central aspect of Spielberg’s “A.I.,” also played a prominent role in “Close Encounters” (“Echoes of Movies Past in ‘A.I.,’ ” July 9). The Richard Dreyfus character’s house contains a small figurine of Jiminy Cricket near the model train setup, and there is a music box that plays “‘When You Wish Upon a Star.”
But the song the scientists use to communicate with the alien ship is decidedly not “When You Wish Upon a Star” played backward, as she contends.
