Falcon With Love Letter Takes a Wrong Turn
A young falcon apparently flew off course while carrying an Egyptian soldier’s message in Arabic to his beloved: “We’ll meet on July 15, when the moon rises.”
An Israeli farmer living four miles from the border with Egypt found the exhausted and starving bird in one of his fields a day after the planned rendezvous. The invitation was strapped to one of the bird’s legs.
The soldier signed his name and platoon--Platoon 41, which serves in the border area of Rafah. The intended recipient’s identity remained a mystery. The bird was recovering on mice and chicks until it’s strong enough to be set free, said Gil Dror, an Israeli field ranger.
