Ports Expansion May Mean 5,000 New Jobs
From Times Wire Services
The city’s $1.5-million expansion of its ports could create more than 5,000 new jobs, says Port Executive Director Chuck Foster, and add nearly 3,000 spin-off jobs.
The city plans to build a 6,000-car parking structure at Oakland International Airport and link its two terminals.
Four of the world’s largest container cranes already are installed at the port’s new Hanjin Terminal. Six more identical cranes are on order from Shanghai this year.
