Buena Will No Longer Rank Among Unbeaten

There will be no mythical national title for the Ventura Buena High girls’ basketball team.
No Southern Section title, either.
Only disappointment and a few restless hours today as the Bulldogs wait to learn if they will receive the one at-large berth to the state Division I Southern Regional.
All this was brought on Saturday night when previously unbeaten Buena, ranked No. 1 in the nation in several polls, lost to Fullerton Troy, 58-51, xin the Southern Section Division I-A final at the Pyramid.
Alicia Komaki scored 20 points and Veronica Johns-Richardson added 19 points for Troy (27-4), which won its first title.
Buena (28-1), which was plagued by foul trouble, was seeking its seventh section title in its 14th championship game.
