In another Division II match:
Canyon 3, Mission Viejo 1--Setter A.J. Gutierrez had 51 assists and John Parfitt had 28 kills with 13 blocks as host Canyon won, 13-15, 15-11, 15-12, 15-6, in a 2-hour 40-minute match. Canyon (14-3) advanced to play at third-seeded Marina.
In Division I:
Century 3, Pico Rivera El Rancho 1--Chris Ferretti had 30 kills to lead Century (13-4) to its first victory in the playoffs, 13-15, 15-6, 15-13, 15-4. Century advanced to play at top-seeded Fountain Valley.
In Division III:
Garden Grove 3, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 0--David Adling had 13 kills as the Argonauts (16-1) swept, 15-9, 15-7, 15-9, and advanced to play the Lakewood Mayfair-Westlake Village Westlake winner.
Tustin 3, Bellflower 0--Andrew Riskin had 16 kills and Arthur Benitez had 38 assists as Tustin (14-3) won, 15-9, 15-2, 15-1, and advanced to play at fourth-seeded Mater Dei.
Valencia 3, Covina Charter Oak 0--Chris Franklin and Scott Mazurier each had nine kills as Valencia (13-5) won, 15-3, 15-7, 15-2, and advanced to play at top-seeded Newport Harbor.
In Division IV:
Bolsa Grande 3, Rosemead Don Bosco 1--David Doan had 29 kills for Bolsa Grande (14-6), which won, 17-15, 12-15, 15-13, 15-1, and advanced to play at top-seeded Sun Valley Village Christian.
In Division V:
St. Margaret’s 3, L.A. Windward 0--Abe Marouf had 18 kills and nine solo blocks for host St. Margaret’s (15-1), which won, 15-13, 15-11, 15-10. The top-seeded Tartans will play L.A. Milken Community or Burbank Providence in the quarterfinals Wednesday.
In Century League baseball:
Villa Park 7, El Modena 6 (11)--Center fielder Ricky Sims hit a home run to lead off the top of the 11th for league champion Villa Park (20-6, 13-2). It was a conclusion of a protested game April 3 that left off in the bottom of the fifth with El Modena leading, 3-2.
In the Express League:
Eastside Christian 9, Rolling Hills Prep 0--Mike Snavely (2-4) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 11 for the Eagles (8-10, 5-5).
