A 56-year-old Sylmar woman drowned Saturday while scuba diving off the northern coast of Santa Cruz Island, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Katherine Sentner was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo after being taken there from the vessel Explorer, based at Ventura Harbor, said Petty Officer William Davidson.
Sentner, who had been diving with a partner for about 10 minutes at an unknown depth, was unconscious and not breathing when pulled from the water. A crew member performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until rescuers arrived, Davidson said.
The Coast Guard is investigating the incident to determine if an equipment failure contributed to her death.
