Jerry Jaso, who coached Long Beach Poly’s football team to three Southern Section Division I championships in the last four seasons, was hired Wednesday as a physical education instructor and assistant coach at Long Beach City College.
Jaso, a 1968 Poly graduate, coached at his alma mater since 1980. He was a head coach or co-head coach since 1985 and his teams won section titles in 1985, 1997, 1999 and 2000. Poly is 54-1-1 in the last four seasons.
Joe Carlson, Poly’s athletic director, said Jaso will remain at the school through the end of the school year. Carlson said a time frame has not been set to complete a search for Jaso’s replacement.
“We are going to open it up to resumes and letters of interest,” Carlson said.
