Ex-Chauffeur Given Jail for Picasso Theft
A former chauffeur for movie producer Peter Guber was sentenced Tuesday to a year in county jail and five years of probation for stealing a Picasso drawing and other valuables from a West Los Angeles home.
Sammie Archer III, 35, was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
Archer pleaded guilty Aug. 29 to charges of first degree residential burglary, embezzlement and receiving stolen property.
Archer tried to sell “Faune”--a $100,000 ink drawing--through Christie’s auction house, but he prompted the suspicion of its employees.
In addition to the drawing, Archer stole a Tiffany lamp that eventually sold for $275,000, and two bronze sculptures, police said.
