Suspected Rapist Arrested at Hospital
A man who sought mental health treatment at a hospital here has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and raping a 10-year-old girl, police said.
Loren James Thompson, 23, also of Modesto, was arrested after emergency room workers at Doctors Medical Center recognized him from a police sketch and called authorities Friday night. He was being held Saturday in lieu of $80,000 bond.
Police said the girl was kidnapped from Coleman Brown Park about 1 p.m. Thursday, when she agreed to accompany a man who asked her if she wanted to see a picture and if she wanted to ride on his bicycle.
Police said the man took her to a vacant apartment, where he bound, gagged and raped her. He left, and she managed to free herself and was found walking down the sidewalk half an hour after she disappeared.
