Falling Beam Hits Car, Misses Driver

A steel beam fell 11 stories from a construction site two blocks from the White House, slicing through a car as driver Jeffrey Pargament, 44, made a turn on Pennsylvania Avenue.
“The man is obviously shaken, but he doesn’t have a scratch on him,” said Alan Etter, a spokesman for District of Columbia Fire and Rescue. The beam, dropped by a construction crew, missed the driver’s head by 6 inches, he said.
