College Trustees Approve ‘Green-Building’ Plan
- Share via
A plan to encourage energy-saving and environmentally friendly designs in new college buildings was approved Wednesday by Los Angeles Community College District trustees.
The “sustainable building” or “green-building” plan will guide the district’s use of $1.2 billion in construction funds from Proposition A, a measure passed by voters last year. The money is expected to pay for 40 to 50 buildings. Construction on the first projects at the district’s nine campuses is expected to begin in about a year.
The building plan encourages construction with recycled materials and designs that limit the consumption of electricity and water.
