A station on the Metro Blue Line light rail system has been named in honor of Los Angeles Lakers announcer Chick Hearn, who died at 85 in August.
The Pico station near Staples Center will carry signs with Hearn’s name.
The honor was proposed Thursday by Mayor James K. Hahn, who is a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s board of directors.
Also, the City Council on Tuesday is expected to finalize plans to rename 11th Street between Figueroa and Cherry streets outside Staples Center as Chick Hearn Court.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman has introduced legislation to rename a post office for Hearn in Encino, where the announcer lived.
