MTA Earmarks Funds for 23 Rapid Bus Routes

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board has voted to expand one of its most successful traffic-fighting programs, earmarking nearly $100 million for the creation of 23 new Rapid Bus routes over the next five years.
The first pair of routes, on Crenshaw Boulevard and South Broadway, are set to operate by 2003.
The Rapid Bus lines on Wilshire and Ventura boulevards are extremely popular because they travel about 20% faster than regular buses. .
