The Oxnard City Council has approved a 47-acre, 200-home development near the city’s airport.
The project, endorsed by the council Tuesday, would be built on unincorporated land at the intersection of Patterson Road and West 5th Street.
It would include 200 single-family detached homes on approximately 33 acres.
The homes will range in price from the mid-$300,000s to the mid-$400,000s, said Loren Bloch, president of Los Angeles-based Community Dynamics, one of the project’s two developers.
The remaining 14 acres would be dedicated for a public park, with the city responsible for its construction and maintenance.
“Oxnard’s a great place to raise a family.... It’s got its own employment base and offers an excellent quality of life,” Bloch said.
Community Dynamics and Brookfield Homes of Orange County hope to break ground this summer, after the expected approval by the Local Agency Formation Commission.
The project is the latest in a flurry of new developments in the city. Last week, city officials approved a $100-million project that includes hundreds of houses and condominiums, a marina and commercial buildings on 135 acres near the coast.
The Seabridge Project, an extension of the Mandalay Bay development, is the last major element of a 20-year-old proposal to develop the Channel Islands Harbor area.
Plans include about 700 homes, a marina with 240 boat slips connecting to the harbor, a waterfront promenade, two public beaches, a community center and an outdoor amphitheater.
The homes would range in price from about $335,000 to more than $1 million, developers say.
