Lynwood Has Few Problems With Narbonne

In its first home game of the season, Lynwood, ranked No. 1 in the Southland by The Times, defeated No. 2 Harbor City Narbonne, 61-45, in an intersectional girls’ basketball game Saturday.

Lynwood (11-1) made its first nine shots to build an 18-4 lead, but missed its next 18 as Narbonne pulled to within 20-18. LaJoyce King scored four of her eight points in the final 1 minute 12 seconds of the first half to give Lynwood a 26-20 halftime lead.

Sade Wiley-Gatewood finished with 17 points, eight assists and four steals. She scored six points in a 9-3 run to open the second half.

“It was just stuff that came to me,” Wiley-Gatewood said. “I was trying to get my team involved. [My teammates] seemed to have their heads down.”

Brandi Kimble had 15 points and six rebounds and Kameca Simmons finished with nine points and five rebounds for Lynwood.

Narbonne (7-6) was led by Camille LeNoir with 15 points, six assists and four steals, and Jamie Funn with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
