Bush Signs Bill That Limits School Class Sizes
- Share via
Gov. Jeb Bush reluctantly signed a law limiting school class sizes, saying he still hopes voters will reconsider the measure because of its cost.
In November, voters approved a class-size initiative, but it doesn’t take effect until 2010.
Damien Filer, spokesman for the Florida Coalition to Reduce Class Size, said the law is little solace for parents, teachers and students who will still have to deal with crowded classrooms.
State economists say it will cost as much as $27 billion, but backers point to other analyses that put it as low as $8 billion.
