Police said a burned body found Sunday morning in the middle of a Fontana brush fire had suffered an execution-style gunshot to the back of the head.
Police Sgt. Mark Weissman said Tuesday that homicide detectives are seeking anyone who saw suspicious activity near the 5:15 a.m. Sunday brush fire in the hills south of Alder and Jurupa avenues. Police also are seeking friends and relatives of the unidentified dead man.
Investigators believe the man was doused with a flammable liquid after being shot.
Police have determined that he was white or Latino, in his 20s to 40s, 5 feet 8 1/2 and 125 to 140 pounds.
Police asked anyone with information to call (909) 350-7720.
