A federal jury in Cleveland acquitted a businessman accused of funneling bribes to former Rep. James A. Traficant Jr.
Richard Detore, who could have faced up to five years in prison, blinked back tears after the verdict was read on the single count of conspiracy to violate the federal bribery statute.
“After three years, it’s good the truth is out. It’s a fair jury,” he said.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Matthew Kall said the government respectfully disagreed with the verdict but accepted it.
