Florida: Tops in seafood
Calypso’s Seafood Grille, 1 Seagate Blvd., Key Largo; (305) 451-0600. “Casual dockside cafe is a rare find and worth a trip from anywhere in South Florida just for dinner. Owner and chef Todd Lollis is a veritable wizard with fish. Last time, I ordered a yellowfin tuna special with a sour cream sauce and caviar -- unbelievable. Even if you’re not a fan of sangria, order theirs anyway. It’s sensational.” Entrees from $10.95.

Italy: Rome restaurant
Trattoria dell’Omo, 18 Via Vicenza, Rome; 011-39-06-490-411. “A feast of homemade Roman specialties, prepared to order at this unpretentious, family-run restaurant near the Termini railroad station. Friendly tone; the menu includes English translations. Superb dinner -- pasta, a second plate, dessert and coffee about $25 per person, including a pitcher of local wine.”
