The Productive Poor
“Look at Taxes Paid” (letter, March 4) states: “Heaven forbid the government let a hard-working, successful citizen keep his or her own money.” The point is that the ultrarich workers should not be taxed disproportionally to the ultrapoor workers. In my 25 years of financial planning with working Americans, I know that the more a worker produces, the less he’ll get paid. Heaven forbid that a field worker, waitress, child-care provider or construction worker get paid as much as a deal maker, banker, lawyer, movie star or even a financial planner.
