Hit-and-Run Suspect Wounded by Deputy

A man believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident was shot in the torso by an Orange County sheriff’s deputy Monday when the suspect allegedly reached inside a pickup truck for a handgun as the officer tried to question him.
The unidentified, critically wounded suspect retreated inside a house in the 200 block of Santa Barbara Street in San Clemente, where he hid for almost five hours before being arrested about 8:20 p.m.
