Typhoon Damage Estimated at $1 Billion

About 70,000 homes in South Korea remained without electricity today, three days after Typhoon Maemi killed at least 87 people and caused nearly $1 billion in damage.
Rescue workers searched for survivors, and soldiers helped repair roads and power lines. Twenty-eight people were missing. Seo Jung Pyo, at the National Disaster Prevention and Countermeasures headquarters, put the damage at $965 million but said the figure could rise.
