GM Recalls Buick SUV for Lift Gate

General Motors Corp. is recalling 103,956 Buick Rendezvous sport utility vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years because occupants may be ejected during a crash when the rear lift gate opens.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its website that the action expanded a June recall of 2002 and earlier 2003 models, including 107,000 vehicles.

A GM spokesman said the company discovered during testing of the newer models that the lift gate might unlatch during a crash. He said the defect in this year’s recall would be fixed by adding a metal strap to keep the lift gate closed.
