Celebrating playwright Lawrence
A memorial celebration will be held for noted playwright-director Jerome Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Mark Taper Forum at the Los Angeles Music Center.
Lawrence, who died Feb. 29, collaborated with Robert E. Lee to create such staples of the American theater as “Inherit the Wind,” “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail” and “Auntie Mame.”
Among the speakers will be Michael Tilson Thomas, Jerry Herman, Eva Marie Saint, Michael York, Tyne Daly and Bea Arthur.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute, Ohio State University, 1430 Lincoln Tower, 1800 Cannon Drive, Columbus, OH 43210-1230.
