BOYS’ BASKETBALL

* Orlando Isias, Santa Ana Century: Scored a school-record 40 points, including 21 on seven three-point baskets, and the Centurions (6-6) overcame a 33-13 deficit for a 60-47 nonleague victory over Huntington Beach Marina.

* Bert Whittington, Temecula Chaparral: Tied a school record by hitting nine three-point baskets and finished with 37 points for the Pumas (7-2), who defeated West Valley, 52-51, on two free throws by Whittington with six seconds left.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Brae Butler, Long Beach Poly: The senior guard scored a team-high nine points for Long Beach Poly but missed a three-point shot at the buzzer as the Jackrabbits, ranked No. 1 in the Southland by The Times, lost, 44-42, to Piedmont, just missing a chance to upset the Highlanders, ranked No. 1 in the nation by Student Sports magazine. Long Beach Poly led, 20-17, at halftime and 38-37 with two minutes to play. Courtney Paris had 19 points to lead the Highlanders (8-0).

* Sheila Ho-Ching, Long Beach Wilson: Finished with 17 points, including a layup with 3.5 seconds left as Long Beach Wilson (6-3), ranked No. 16 in the Southland by The Times, earned a 46-44 victory over Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula in the Artesia tournament.

* Teresa Karcher and Erin Noonan, Fullerton Rosary: Karcher had 16 points and five steals, and Noonan had 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Royals (9-1), ranked No. 19 by The Times, beat Charlotte (N.C.) Victory Christian in a Gray Division semifinal game of the Chandler (Ariz.) Nike tournament.

* Caitlin O’Neill and Kali Bennett, Ventura: O’Neill hit seven three-pointers and finished with 25 points, and Bennett had 17 points and nine rebounds as the Cougars (12-0), ranked No. 8 by The Times, defeated No. 12 Moreno Valley Canyon Springs, 67-59, in the Gray Division semifinals of the Chandler (Ariz.) Nike tournament.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

* Brooke Figge, Santa Margarita: Had four goals for the Eagles (6-1), ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division I, in a 14-1 first-round victory over Grossmont and four more goals in an 8-6 victory over Corona del Mar, ranked No. 1 in Division II, in the Newport Harbor/Corona del Mar tournament.
