Assailants with guns and hand grenades killed five members of the Moscow-backed Chechen president’s security force in a home invasion, officials said.
As many as 10 attackers burst into the home of the local commander of Akhmad Kadyrov’s security force in the village of Alleroi, said Chechen Interior Ministry spokesman Ruslan Atsayev.
The commander and four other members of the force died in the attack, Atsayev said. One assailant was killed, he said. The assault followed a major operation in Alleroi by the security force searching for rebel fighters and weapons, the Interfax news agency reported.
Kadyrov’s son said he was offering $200,000 for information on the attack, Interfax said.
