Two months after the Riverside County Grand Jury delivered a 28-point attack on the county-operated animal shelter, the Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to pay the Humane Society of the United States $25,000 to audit the operation.
The grand jury found that animals were being improperly euthanized at the shelter.
In addition, it cited county records showing that 14% of the nearly 22,000 animals impounded each year could not be accounted for.
