A 12-year-old boy was shot to death at his home Tuesday in an isolated area of Corona, near Lake Matthews, officials said.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies are uncertain whether the boy was slain or the wound was self-inflicted, department spokesman Dennis Gutierrez said.
Deputies responded to a call in the 11300 block of Dawson Canyon Road from a male relative of the boy about noon Tuesday, Gutierrez said. When the man initially called, he said it was an accidental shooting, Gutierrez said.
The boy, whose name was not released, died at the scene.
Jurupa Valley Station investigators and detectives from the Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit were investigating the shooting, Gutierrez said.
