Japanese and Peruvian officials began three days of talks in Tokyo to review Peru’s request for the extradition of its former president, Alberto Fujimori -- the first such meeting between legal experts from both sides.
Peru’s delegation aims to clarify any technical or legal questions Japan may have about the 700-page extradition request, a Peruvian Embassy official said.
Fujimori fled to Japan in November 2000 amid a corruption scandal. He has Japanese citizenship, and the two countries have no extradition treaty.
