Knight on Gay Marriage; S.F. Sues California
Re “State Senator Fumes Over Same-Sex Marriages,” Feb. 20: Republican state Sen. William “Pete” Knight was described as troubled that the issue (same-sex marriages) probably will be decided in the courts. He is quoted as saying, “This is the biggest public policy issue since slavery.” Was he asleep when the courts enforced voting and abortion rights and ruled against discrimination in public schools?
How is Knight injured by the granting of individual freedoms to others? This is another example of a narrow mind telling others how they must live.

Re “S.F. Sues State Over Bans on Gay Marriages,” Feb. 20: The law of the land is marriage between a man and a woman. Moreover, there are no laws sanctioning same-sex marriages. By suing the state of California, are gays and lesbians seeking equal protection of the laws or protection from the law?
