Sanity Hearing Set for Killer Convicted in 1994
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A convicted killer will return to court so a jury can decide whether he was sane at the time he kidnapped, raped and assaulted three women, including one who was shot to death.
Ricardo Estrada, 33, was sentenced in 1994 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
But an appeals court ruled that the judge had made a legal error during the sanity phase. Estrada will return to West Valley Superior Court on Feb. 20.
