Death Toll in Gas Well Explosion Climbs to 243

The death toll from a Dec. 23 gas drilling accident that spewed toxic fumes over villages in southwestern China has risen to 243 after 10 people died in hospitals, the government said.
An additional 396 people were still being treated for injuries suffered in the disaster northeast of the city of Chongqing, the official New China News Agency said. It said 27 were in critical condition.
