Panel Cautions City on Big Commercial Projects
A team from the Urban Land Institute has strongly cautioned Los Angeles officials against trying to develop large commercial projects in North Hollywood in the near future.
Instead, they should focus on creating an “urban village” of high-density housing near the subway station while fostering an environment that would help the local arts scene thrive, according to the panel, which was commissioned by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency to take a fresh look at the area. Despite years of redevelopment efforts, the area still suffers from economic distress and blight.
