Tough and poetic
Tiger Army, a rockabilly trio with a darker soul, rocked the House of Blues over the weekend with two sold-out shows celebrating the release of their album “III: Ghost Tigers Rise.” So much emotion and poetry from such hard-core lads, I had to get to the bottom of it. Turns out singer Nick 13 and bassist Geoff Kresge grew up in Ukiah, Calif., with members of the punk band AFI. And by the way, AFI singer Davey Havok and Bad Religion guitarist/
Epitaph Records owner Brett Gurewitz were in the crowd cheering on Tiger Army, whose stand-out song is the pas- sionate “Rose of the Devil’s Garden.”
With some bite
After re-forming last year for KROQ’s Inland Invasion, Bow Wow Wow decided to keep up the good work. The group, including original members Leigh Gorman and Annabella Lwin, hit the Key Club on July 23, with Phil Gough of the reggae band Common Sense and Adrian Young of No Doubt joining in.... Bumped into singer James Intveld, who’s sporting a 70s-style beard and long hair for a recurring role on the TV show “Monk,” where he plays an undercover cop. You can catch Intveld in his natural habitat when he performs at the Thunderbird Saloon in NoHo on July 30.... Holy cow! Ike Turner is scheduled to perform at Harvelle’s nightclub in Santa Monica on Saturday. That ought to be one for the books.... Finally, you don’t want to miss Zachariah at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood on Friday night. I mean, how many bluegrass hip-hop artists have you seen lately?
Teen scene
The hottest club scene for teens and tweens is the Key Club’s all-ages Ruby Tuesday night, and the current band to check out is Orange, made up of four teenage heartthrobs from the mid-Wilshire area who have songs for days. Orange rolls into the Key Club on July 27.
