Eight Children Hurt in Crash
Eight children attending a day camp Wednesday were injured, one critically, in a two-vehicle collision in Fountain Valley, police said.
The accident occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. when a small car struck a van carrying the children as the van attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot on Warner Avenue east of Magnolia Street, said Sgt. Kevin Thomas, a spokesman for the Fountain Valley Police Department.
The children, ages 5 to 7, were on their way to a roller skating rink as part of the Willow Lane Town and Country’s Summer Day Camp program, Thomas said.
One child, a 5-year-old, was listed in critical condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, police said.
The director of the day camp declined to give her name or comment on the accident.
Seven other children with minor injuries were taken to hospitals, Thomas said. The woman driving the car was also taken to a hospital for treatment of a head injury. The driver of the van was not injured, police said.
Thomas said the investigation is continuing.
Witnesses to the accident are asked to call the Fountain Valley Police Department at (714) 593-4485.
