Irrigation Is Taking Too Much Water, Study Says

Most targets for restoring freshwater flows to San Francisco Bay and its watershed are not being met because too much water is being diverted for irrigation, according to a report released Thursday by the Bay Institute.
Only about half the fresh water that should flow into the bay under natural conditions is reaching it, straining the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta’s fish population and wildlife habitat, the report by the Novato-based institute said.
