Williams Meets With NCAA Reps
USC wide receiver Mike Williams took another step toward regaining collegiate football eligibility Monday when he met with NCAA representatives in Los Angeles, according to school sources.
Williams, who declared for the NFL draft after his sophomore season, has been trying to get reinstated since the courts overturned a decision on Maurice Clarett, who was originally ruled eligible for the draft two years after high school.
The NCAA, which received USC’s application for reinstatement earlier this month, also has to decide whether Williams is academically eligible.
NCAA spokesman Erik Christianson would not comment on USC’s request for a progress-toward-degree waiver for Williams, but Christianson said that USC’s request for reinstatement of eligibility was continuing.
Neither Williams nor USC Coach Pete Carroll could be reached for comment.
