Ryan Out; GOP to Pick New Senate Candidate

Republicans took two steps out of campaign limbo as their scandal-tainted Senate nominee officially withdrew his candidacy and party leaders in Chicago decided to pick his replacement.
Jack Ryan, whose continued presence on the ballot had frustrated Republican Party leaders, finally filed his withdrawal papers with the Illinois State Board of Elections.
“What a relief,” said Ronald Smith, secretary of the state Republican Central Committee.
