Stars Clinch a Playoff Spot

Bill Guerin scored 3:11 into overtime at Edmonton, Canada, to lift Dallas to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers that clinched a playoff spot for the Stars.

Guerin converted Valeri Bure’s centering pass for his 33rd goal, scoring from point-blank range after teammate Brenden Morrow scored with less than a minute left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

With goalie Marty Turco on the bench for an extra attacker, Morrow cashed in Richard Matvichuk’s rebound at 19:06.

Fernando Pisani gave the Oilers a 3-2 lead with his second of the game with 6:59 left in regulation.

Shawn Horcoff stole the puck from Mike Modano along the boards and broke into the Dallas zone on a two-on-one with Pisani, who scored his fourth goal in four games.

Eric Brewer also scored for the Oilers, who haven’t lost in regulation in 14 games (8-0-2-4).

Edmonton has sole possession of seventh place in the Western Conference with 83 points.

David Oliver and Lubomir Sekeras also scored for the Stars, who’ve won four in a row and are unbeaten in six (5-0-1).

Calgary 4, Phoenix 0 -- Jarome Iginla scored his 39th goal, Roman Turek earned his second consecutive shutout and the Flames ended a two-game losing streak with a victory at Glendale, Ariz.

Iginla, who also had an assist, finished the night tied with Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk and Columbus’ Rick Nash for the NHL lead in goals.

Craig Conroy had a goal and an assist, Marcus Nilson and Martin Gelinas had goals, and Denis Gauthier had two assists for the Flames.

Buffalo 2, Montreal 1 -- J.P. Dumont and Adam Mair each scored in the second period to lift the Sabres over the Canadiens at Buffalo, N.Y.

Martin Biron made 24 saves for the Sabres, who climbed within six points of the New York Islanders for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Each team has six games left.

Atlanta 3, Washington 2 -- Daniel Tjarnqvist scored on a 55-foot shot with 7:24 left at Atlanta and the Thrashers kept alive their slim playoff hopes.

The Thrashers tied a franchise record with their 31st victory, but they’re still 10 points behind the Islanders for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta, which has never made the postseason in its five-year history, has only five games left.

Columbus 2, Minnesota 0 -- Rick Nash scored his 39th goal and Marc Denis stopped 20 shots to lead the Blue Jackets at Columbus, Ohio.

Philadelphia Flyer center Jeremy Roenick decided to return a game ahead of schedule after his recovery from a broken jaw and concussion. Roenick said he would play tonight at home against the New York Islanders. He was hit by a shot off the stick of New York Ranger defenseman Boris Mironov on Feb. 12.
