Look Up: There’s a New World of Radio
Your April 28 editorial, “Beyond Foul Words,” overlooks the new reality of satellite radio. Because it is a subscription service, it has, so far, escaped Chairman Michael Powell and his Federal Communications Commission. Even in my remote area, I listen to Air America on XM and Out Q gay radio on Sirius. Both Sirius and XM now have plug-and-plays that play in the car and then also in the home, for $150 at electronic stores. Despite the problems of soft classical passages being too soft to hear in a moving car and data compression codes that can sterilize the sound, the signal is steady and static free. One has to wonder if local radio has its head in the sand. It’s a whole new world now.
