Elliott Will Tout Local Companies
BALTIMORE — Stewart Elliott, who’s riding Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones in Saturday’s Preakness at Pimlico, will wear two advertisements on his pants -- the names of an Orange County mortgage company and a California radio station.
A spokesman for KCBS Marketing in Los Angeles said Thursday night that Elliott would represent Argent Mortgage, a company in the City of Orange, and Jonathon Brandmeier, a local radio personality.
The spokesman would not say how much Elliott was being paid for the advertising. Elliott didn’t wear advertising on his apparel when Smarty Jones won the Derby, which was run two days after a federal judge in Louisville ruled that the jockeys were entitled, under 1st Amendment protection, to wear advertising.
Some jockeys were believed to have been paid $30,000 for the advertising they wore in the Derby.
