Climber Is Airlifted Off Mountain but Later Dies
From Times Wire Reports
A rescue helicopter plucked a seriously injured climber from high on the north slope of Mount Rainier when clouds that had socked in the mountain suddenly cleared. But the injured man died later at a hospital near Tacoma.
The chopper, an Army National Guard Chinook from Oregon, winched the climber aboard after he was strapped to a litter.
Peter Cooley, 39, of Cape Elizabeth, Me., was hurt when he fell 30 feet early Saturday on Liberty Ridge.
