Settling some of the allegations against her, rock star Courtney Love agreed Tuesday to undergo narcotics counseling and plead guilty to one misdemeanor drug charge in exchange for the dismissal of a disorderly conduct charge, authorities said.

Love, 39, will attend an outpatient drug treatment program where she will receive narcotics counseling, substance abuse classes and possibly random drug testing, said Jerry Baik, an assistant supervising attorney for Los Angeles City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo.

Love tested positive for cocaine and opiates during an incident last fall, Baik said.

If she completes the program, Love may ask for dismissal of the drug charge. If she fails, she could spend from 90 days to one year in county jail.

“It’s not an unbearable program,” Baik said outside Los Angeles County Superior Court. “It’s something that could more benefit her than harm her.”

The misdemeanor charges stem from an incident last October when Love, the widow of rocker Kurt Cobain, was found standing outside a Wilshire-area home where she admitted having broken the windows in an attempt to enter. Police suspected Love was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Later that night, Love was taken to a hospital after Beverly Hills police and paramedics found her at a home under the influence of a controlled substance. Love faces separate felony charges of illegal possession of hydrocodone and oxycodone in that incident.

Neither Love, who is scheduled for sentencing July 16, nor her defense attorney would comment.
