Vic Sussman, 65; Writer, Senior Editor of Public Radio’s ‘Marketplace’

Vic Sussman, 65, a veteran journalist and author who was senior editor for the public radio business program “Marketplace,” died in Washington, D.C., on Monday of an apparent stroke after successful surgery.

During his long career, Sussman was a senior editor at U.S. News & World Report and a columnist for the Washington Post’s Book World and the Washington Post Magazine. He also worked for Voice of America, America Online and Cahners Business Information. He joined “Marketplace,” which is produced in Los Angeles by American Public Media, this year.

In addition to numerous magazine and newspaper articles, Sussman wrote three nonfiction books: “The Vegetarian Alternative,” “Never Kiss a Goat on the Lips” and “The Compost Solution.”

A native of New York City, he began his career in broadcasting at 16 at a country-western radio station in Arlington, Va. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in communications from American University in Washington, he worked as a reporter and producer at public radio station WAMU-FM.
