Irwin Bross, 82; Biostatistician Studied Injury Cause and Effect

Irwin Bross, 82, a biostatistician who did research on automobile-crash injury, links between cigarette smoking and cancer, and the effects of low-level ionizing radiation and other occupational hazards, has died, according to his wife, Rida.
Bross died Aug. 29 at a hospice center in Cheektowaga, N.Y.
Bross, an Ohio native, graduated from Los Angeles High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA and his master’s degree and doctorate from North Carolina State University. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II.
He wrote many scientific articles and published six books, including “Design for Decision.”
