* The percentage of households in California able to afford July’s $463,540 median-priced home fell to 18% from 27% in the same month last year when the median home price was $381,940, according to the California Assn. of Realtors. Affordability in the month of July was unchanged from June.
* Thirty-year mortgage rates averaged 5.83% last week, up from 5.77% a week earlier, Freddie Mac said. The rate on 15-year mortgages averaged 5.22%, up from 5.15%.
